New Java Training Blog

After my previous post, I would be remiss in not pointing out a new blog for my team. The Java training developers at Oracle have setup the Java Training Beat blog.

The blog will include posts on new tutorials and products created by our team. In addition, we will include any other goodies that will help you get to know Java a little bit better. Feel free to bookmark the site and watch for updates.

Of course I will continue to post here with my insights such as they are. :)

Free Open Source JQuery Training Materials

I have been wanting to post this link for a couple of weeks. Rebecca Murphey has released open source training materials for JQuery! The materials are first rate and are available under a creative commons share license.

The training materials looks to be quite comprehensive. I really need to read through everything, myself. But, this sleeping at night thing is really getting in the way of my personal development. :)

A Small Rant on Slide Deck Training

I think I have ranted on this before, but it merits a second round. A Power Point presentation does not constitute training!!!! In addition, Power Point sucks as a medium for tutorials and how to's.

In my experience, 9 out of 10 times, a stand up Power Point information blast is the wrong option. It doesn't scale well and no one will remember what you said the next day. You are much better off writing a tutorial, a how to, or making a screen cast. Any of these options provides more information to your target audience and will be much more helpful in the long run.
